Delegates from Africa have arrived in the lakeside town of Kisumu in western Kenya for the Africities Summit – a continental conference on urban areas.
The summit is expected to be opened by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta , is scheduled to take place from 17th to 20th June May 21 under the theme: The Contribution of Africa’s Mid-Cities to the Implementation of the United Nations Vision 2030 and the African Union Agenda 2063.
This is the first time that the Africities Summit takes place in a city in between.
Both Vision 2030 and Agenda 2063 aim to increase the continent’s prosperity through better planning, service delivery and eradication of extreme poverty. And as populations grow in urban centers, officials have said the issue is apt to establish appropriate systems to help larger cities stay well-planned.
