The iconic Hilton Hotel in Nairobi will close indefinitely in December and lay off an unspecified number of staff, underscoring the hotels’ struggles in the wake of the Covid-19 travel slump.
The hotel, the is 40.57 percent government-owned, has pointed to factors other than Covid-19 for the planned closure after more than 50 years of operation from its location in the heart of the central business district.
“After extensive discussions With hotel ownership, the Hilton Nairobi will close its doors and cease operations for the final time on December 31, 2022,” a Hilton spokesman told Business Daily in an interview.
