Kigali’s fun side comes out to play for Chogm visitors

Rwanda will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Chogm) 2022 from 20-25 June, bringing together leaders and representatives from 54 countries, as well as private sector delegations for business talks.

The government has withdrawn from organizing several events for social interaction.

From general entertainment to exploring the local arts and culture scene, food and drink to sporting events, Kigali aims to spice up the visit.

Street Festival

Organized by Kigali Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market, Ikaze PCO and Intore Entertainment, the event will showcase Rwandan and other African art, culture and business around the city. Both foreign visitors and Rwandans are welcome to enjoy and interact. The venue is Kigali’s newly renovated Imbuga City Walk (car-free zone).

The festival is open daily from 12pm to 9pm. The event will also include an exhibition of African-inspired fashion by local designers; Handicrafts by Rwandan artisans, and there will be a children’s playground during the day. Also expect live bands and creative performances, as well as plenty of food and drink.

Kigali People’s Festival

This event is designed to bring people with a taste for different cultures together through music. Comedy and spontaneous entertainment by artists from Africa and beyond. It will take place on June 20th in the car-free zones of Gisementi-Remera and later in Nyamirambo-Biryogo. This festival is seen as the prelude to the social events in Chogm.

Kigali Night Run

The event, which has now become a prominent Rwandan social activity, has gained young over the years People and youngsters of all ages dressed up for a fun run on designated streets and squares around the city.

This event will take place on June 21st from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will include a five-kilometer run – to include the healthy life of the city in the Chogm agenda and also for visitors and the general public to enjoy hassle-free training.

Chogm Cricket Tournament

Cricket fans will be at the Gahanga Hosting Cricket Stadium where the Chogm Cricket tournament takes place on 23rd June alongside the high quality networking ambience this event offers. It is also a chance for Rwanda to position and demonstrate its commitment to the growth of all sports in the country.

Chogm Networking Golf Tournament

This highly anticipated event will be held in the new established Kigali Golf Resort and Villas and brings participants together in a relaxed atmosphere. The tournament on June 24th is also an ideal platform for those in corporate circles from all countries attending Chogm to rub shoulders.
