“I am grateful to Ambassador Satterfield and look forward to working with Ambassador Hammer as we continue our diplomatic efforts in the region,” said Blinken.
< p>In April, reports indicated that Satterfield would be “resigning soon.” That was barely three months after he replaced Jeffrey Feltman, who resigned in January after about nine months in office.
Hammer will grapple with several crises in the region, including also conflict in Ethiopia, which has sparked allegations of atrocities on both sides; and economic and political unrest in Sudan following a coup in October.
“His appointment underscores our continued commitment to diplomatic efforts in the region,” he said primarily in support of an inclusive political process for peace, shared security and prosperity for all people of Ethiopia,” Blinken said.
