Somalia’s Prime Minister Hussein Roble on Tuesday suspended Foreign Minister Abdisaid Muse Ali, citing the approval of a ship exporting charcoal to Oman in violation of international sanctions.
The UN Security Council has banned such shipments ten years of funding cuts for the militant Islamist group al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda franchise fighting against Somalia’s central government.
PM Roble’s office said he also conducted an audit and inquest into the State Department approval ordered for delivery.
Ali could not be reached and State Department spokesmen did not respond to requests for comment.
The status of the shipment was unclear.
