Rwanda, Mozambique extend defence pact to fight terror

Rwanda and Mozambique have signed an agreement to expand cooperation between the two countries’ security forces, paving the way for Rwandan troops to stay longer in Cabo Delgado province.

Rwandan troops have been stationed in Mozambique six months ago to fight insurgents.

While Mozambique attributes the months of joint military operations with the Rwanda Defense Force (RDF) to weakening the insurgents considerably and facilitating the repatriation of civilians from the camps to their homeland have said that further cooperation is needed to help reform its security sector in order to achieve full stabilization and resumption of economic activity.
