South Sudan President sacks Minister Beatrice Khamisa

The South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has dismissed his Foreign Minister Beatrice Khamisa Wani and replaced her with Mayiik Ayii Deng, who was once Minister for Presidential Affairs.

Khamisa, who was appointed last year when the unit’s interim government was formed, was relieved of her duties on Thursday evening by a presidential decree broadcast by the state broadcaster South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC).

No reasons were given for the dismissal.

South Sudanese parties, including the Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement / Opposition Army (SPLM / A-IO), under the leadership of First Vice President Riek Machar, are implementing the peace agreement, which was revived in 2018 , which was signed in Ethiopia to end the more than six-year conflict.

The conflict that began in December 2013 after a political dispute between President Kiir and his then-St Machar broke out, leaving tens of thousands of people killed and more than two million people displaced, both internally and externally.
