Uganda is expected to destroy over 400,000 doses of expired Covid-19 vaccines, while less than half of the 22 million targeted individuals have been vaccinated.
Health Secretary Jane Ruth Aceng said the vaccines had already been vaccinated in delivered to the northern part of Uganda but not used.
The expired cans were mainly Moderna and some cans of AstraZeneca, she added.
Health Minister Margaret Muhanga had said the government a few weeks ago working on vaccination campaigns across the country, particularly in northern Uganda where uptake has been low.
She said low uptake of the vaccine has hampered the fight against the virus.
“Due to the Because of the low uptake of the vaccines, we launched vaccination campaigns across the country, starting with the sub-regions of Teso, Lango,” she said.
At the time, she said the goal is to vaccinate over 15 million people by early January 2022.
