– Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has appointed prominent former Water and Irrigation Minister Seleshi Bekele (PhD) as chief negotiator and advisor on transboundary rivers and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The Prime Minister also appointed others, including former House of Federation Spokesman Adem Farah, to various Ministerial positions.
The appointment was announced this morning, the day after Prime Minister Abiy formed his cabinet, approved by parliament. In the new cabinet, Minister Seleshi was replaced by the former head of the Oromia State Water Bureau, Habtamu Iteffa Geleta (PhD), who became Minister of Water and Energy.
Dr. Seleshi said he was honored to have served as Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy and pledged to assist his successors in his capacity.
Today’s additional appointment by Prime Minister Abiy includes the reappointment of Teferi Fikre as Head of the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister for Cabinet Affairs; and appointment of former HoF spokesman Adam Farah as chief coordinator of the Center for Coordination of Democracy Building with ministerial function; and Tesfaye Belgium as a government representative in the House of Representatives.
In addition, Prime Minister Dr. Legesse Tulu Appointed Head of Government Communications Service with the Title of Minister, Dr. Mihiret Debebe as President of the African Leadership Academy; Fisseha Yitagesu as CEO of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation; and Abdurahman Rube as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation.
