2022 presidential debate to take place on July 26

The 2022 Presidential Debate will be held on July 26 and will include a Nairobi County Governor’s Debate, the Governing Secretariat has announced.

The Presidential Debate will be preceded by the Vice President’s Debate on July 19 and the Governor’s Debate in Nairobi at the Catholic University for East Africa on July 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

“The gubernatorial debate is a recognition of the central place that decentralization holds in our governance and the growing need for it to ensure greater accountability at the county level,” the secretariat said in a statement.

The statement also announced that the governor debate will continue in two tiers.

“The first tier the gubernatorial debate will include candidates whose popularity ratings are below 5 percent, based on three recent opinion polls, while the second tier, Kandi includes data that surveyed over 5 percent in the same opinion polls. The first debate will start at 18:00 and end at 19:30, while the second debate will be broadcast at 20:00 and end at 21:30.”

KBC’s Serfine Achieng’ and Ayub Abdikadir from K24 will moderate the first level debate and Zubeida Koome from KTN and Mark Maasai from NTV will moderate the second level debate.

Waihiga Mwaura from Citizen TV will moderate the panel discussions of the two debates.

For the debates, the following rules apply , the moderators select the questions to be asked of the candidates.

You may not discuss the questions with the candidates or their campaign teams, nor may they pre-dial them meeting at the beginning of the debates.

The Secretariat promised to have an impartial, fair and objective debate.
