Businesswoman Mary Wambui denies illegally owning a firearm

Ms. Wambui, who came into the spotlight last year for claiming she had taxes of Sh2 billion. evaded, appeared before the chief judge of Milimani, Wendy Kangendo Michemi.

She denied the charge of gun possession.


Her new ailments stem from a gun license given by the police last year confiscated from the Weston Hotel, where she stayed when she was on the run over the multi-billion dollar tax evasion case. The certificate prompted police to investigate her for the illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.

< p> She was instructed to present the weapon in her possession for inspection by the Firearms Office.

She was then arrested and detained at Muthaiga Police Station before being brought to court on Thursday.

She denied that she was illegally with her between April 17, 2020 and December 15, 2021, possession of a firearm and 22 rounds of 9.9 mm ammunition without valid certificate g of the Arms Office.

Their lawyers, Nelson Havi and Kipchumba Murkomen, applied for their release on bail and said there was no risk of escape.

Prosecutor Alexander Gikunda did not deny the bail request.

Ms. Michemi released Ms. Wambui on a Sh50,000 cash deposit with a contact person and instructed the case to be mentioned on January 25 for pretrial instructions.

Ms. Wambui paid the Cash deposit immediately and left the court cells.
