The Kusi Ideas Festival III, a product of NMG, took first place in the Leveraging an Event to Build News Brand category. The festival also took second place in last year’s awards.
Paywall Nation.Africa received an honorable mention in the category of Best Subscriber Acquisition Initiative.
The website also received an Honorable Mention in the Best Product Repeat category.
Nation.Africa launched in September 2020 while the paywall launched in February 2021. The site reached 50,000 subscribers in three months and when the paywall was launched it had over 200,000 subscribers.
The 2022 Global Media Awards competition received a record number of 854 entries from 252 news media brands from 46 countries. Participants included newspapers, magazines, digital, television and radio media.
The INMA competition, which has recognized media excellence since 1937, evaluates news media companies in three segments: national brands, regional brands and media groups.
“While creativity in communicating subscriptions and engaging readers was a recurring theme this year, visually communicating a tragic message was high on the judges’ minds,” said Earl J. Wilkinson, Executive Director and CEO of INMA.
He added: “Our association’s focus on the full spectrum of creativity – brands, platforms, subscriptions, advertising, data, products and newsroom – really sheds a light on innovation in news media. “
