Mr Odinga appointed Mr Muriithi as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Elizabeth Meyo, former Commissioner of the Kenyan Treasury, as Secretary and General Manager on Wednesday.
The team will play a key role in drawing up his manifesto. Yesterday, the names of 11 other members became known, including the governors Anyang ‘Nyong’o (Kisumu) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) as well as Professors Peter Wanyande, Makau Mutua and Karuti Kanyinga.
The others are business moguls Samuel Macharia, the former Nyeri women’s representative Priscilla Nyokabi, Seth Kakusye, Betty Montet and Kanchory Saitaboi. The experienced journalist Ben Agina is also a member of the team.
Mr. Macharia, the owner of Royal Media Services, has accompanied Mr. Odinga to important meetings, including with the Mount Kenya Foundation, which supported his application. Prof. Mutua and Prof. Wanyande are longtime supporters of Mr. Odinga.
Ms. Nyokabi is a commissioner of the National Commission for Equality and Equality.
Yesterday Ms. Nyokabi told the Daily Nation, “Baba (Mr Odinga) has reached out to all board members and we have all accepted this task.”
Confirmed Mr Odinga
Mr Kakusye is a politician from Kibwezi West and currently a member of the ODM Disciplinary Committee. In 2017, Mr Odinga persuaded him to step down in support of Mr James Mbaluka, then Wiper’s candidate.
Mr Saitaboi is a lawyer who once led the case between Vice President William Ruto and Mr John Koech worked on the struggle for leadership of the United Democratic Movement (UDM). Mr. Koech has since died.
Prof. Wanyande is a political scientist at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and was once a member of the Constitution Implementation Commission.
He is also instrumental in Mr Odinga’s Social Protection Fund program, in which he promised poor households Receive Sh6,000 a month if he is elected President.
“We want leaders who rule with a conscience, who rule the poor, respect every Kenyan because every Kenyan is important,” said Prof. Wanyande last Year when he accompanied Mr. Odinga to a public forum at the UoN.
Prof. Mutua is a legal scholar and human rights activist who has been supporting Mr. Odinga for the presidency. He has always described the former Prime Minister as a personal friend and political soulmate.
Prof Kanyinga is Research Professor of Development Studies at the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), UoN. Ms. Montet is an attorney for the Supreme Court.
Announcing the appointment of Mr. Muriithi, Mr. Odinga commended the governor for playing a key role in the uprising of key cities in the Laikipia County has played and empowered small and medium-sized businesses. “Governor Murithi was instrumental in the rehabilitation of the derelict Nairobi-Nanyuki and Gilgil-Nyahururu railroad lines.
” After his election as governor of Laikipia in 2017, Mr. Muriithi began radical public service reforms to to make him professionally and globally competitive. These efforts have been rewarded with unmatched growth in the county’s own income, which has doubled since fiscal 2016/17, “said Odinga.
” Murithi will also modernize major Laikipia cities as part of its Smart Towns Initiative partially funded by the World Bank’s Urban Support and Devolution Support programs. ”
Ms. Meyo currently advises the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has more than three decades of administrative and strategic experience.
“MrsMeyo will be the overall manager of the campaign, implement her strategic and most important decisions, lead the campaign secretariat and make all important decisions. She will be the only spokesperson for the campaign, “Odinga said in a statement announcing her appointment.
Previously, it was reported that former television journalist Dennis Onsarigo would take over the media and communications in the secretariat .
In addition to Mr. Onsarigo, Mr. Odinga’s long-time spokesman is Dennis Onyango, who continues to be significantly involved in the communication of the Azimio guide.
