The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Interior Ministry and the coordination of the national government.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang made a public statement ‘i said October 11th is a public holiday as Utamaduni Day falls on Sunday, October 10th, 2021
“In accordance with the provisions of Section 2 and 4 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 110) it is hereby confirmed that October 11, 2021 is a public holiday, as Utamaduni Day falls on Sunday, October 10, 2021.
” While this day is already provided for by law, Utamaduni Day is being celebrated for the first time in Kenya and this press release is intended to highlight the need for all citizens to recognize and celebrate Kenya’s rich cultural diversity in a way that unity, national cohesion and economic promotes ichen progress in the country ”, it says in the declaration.
Dr. Ma Tiang’i noted that this will be the very first Utamaduni Day celebration in Kenya. to celebrate ways that promote unity and economic progress.
Formerly the day was marked as Moi day, before the name later changed to Huduma day and later Utamaduni day was.
