President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Alfred Musimba and Monica Wanjiru as new EACC commissioners to replace Dabar Maalim and Rose Macharia, who resigned on September 1st.
National Assembly spokesman Justin Muturi shared the nominations during the Wednesday afternoon plenary session.
He said the President conveyed the message to the House of Representatives after receiving a report from the Civil Service Commission on the recruitment of substitute members.
< p> “In this regard, His Excellency The President is now asking for the approval of the nominees through this House,” said Muturi. House calls on nominees to be given priority.
Muturi mentioned the importance of the EACC’s mandate to ensure integrity in the public sector.
“To this end, Au “shot the nominees and the general public of the time and place for holding the approval hearings,” he said, calling on the House of Representatives to look into the matter within the legal deadlines.
Abdi and Macharia leave the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission five months before the end of their term in December.
The duo’s resignation served to postpone the resignation of the commissioners, so as not to plunge the agency into a constitutional crisis that stopped its anti-transplant efforts two years ago.
There are currently two commissioners, SophiaLepuchirit and MwanikiGachoka, as well as the Chair EliudWabukala.
