Samuel Kanu-Uche, the prelate of the Methodist Church, Nigeria and two other priests were from their abductors released.
Abia police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed their release to the Nigerian News Agency in Umuahia on Monday.
Asked if they paid ransom, Mr Ogbonna said: “I can only confirm that they were released tonight. I don’t have the details at the moment.”
Recall that the kidnappers ransomed a sum of N100 million for the prelate, the Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev Dennis Mark and the prelate’s chaplain, very Rev. Shitti.
They were kidnapped on Sunday while they were on their way from a program in the Umunneochi Municipality Administrative Area in Abia .
This is contained in a statement signed by the Council Secretary, Mr. Peter Uba.
The statement read :
“The Chairman is pleased to announce the release of His Eminence, Dr. SCK Uche JP, the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, and his entourage from their kidnappers.
“This was confirmed by Lay President of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Sir Ifeanyi Okechukwu.
” The prelate is currently in a church praising God. Details to follow shortly.”

Meanwhile, Imo Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, on Friday, May 27, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, received at Government House, Owerri.
Pastor Adeboye revealed in his address to the Governor that the problem of Nigeria today is beyond human understanding and affirms that God’s intervention is real and inevitable.
He said his team and members had been fasting and for the restoration of the land for days, but that God instructed him to visit the places and lands throughout Nigeria where the forces of darkness shrouded the light, hence visiting Imo for a prayer session.
