A 42-year-old man, Ademola Omoniyi, was sentenced to death by hanging for killing an Ekiti state traditional leader, Oba Gbadebo Ibitoye Olowoselu ll, the Onise of Odo-Oro Ekiti in Ikole Governorate of Ekiti.

The Nation reports that a Supreme Court of Ado Ekiti Omoniyi has sentenced to it died Thursday, May 5, following a ruling by Judge Olukayode Ogundana.

At the sentencing hearing, Ogundana said Omoniyi would be hanged until he was charged with the murder of Oba Gbadebo breathe his last.

Charges against 42-year-old Omoniyi

Omoniyi was found to have been tried on the basis of a Charged with murder in a case that violates Section 316 and is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti 2012.

A review of his case has shown that the Convicts were murdered by Oba Gbadebo on August 20, 2018 in Odo Oro Ekiti at the Ikole Ekiti Justice Department.

One ​​of the chiefs of the community who made a statement about the incident in court said that they were in the palace for Onise in a council meeting when Omoniyi entered the palace around 7am.

The chief said before the meeting started Omoniyi was sitting on Kabiyesi (the seat of the traditional chief), but the chiefs frowned at his action and drove him away.

He added:

“After the meeting, the late Onise in the company of him. A male employee was attacked while walking back to the main palace.

“After stabbing the victim with a knife, Omoniyi began to present himself as the king of the city.”

Additionally, during the hearing on the matter, the prosecutor Adegboyega Morakinyo summoned five witnesses and presented a medical report, statements of the convict and a knife as evidence.

However, the convict spoke in his own defense through his attorney, Tope Salami, and the case ended, without Omoniyi calling a witness.
