Akeredolu vows to deal with open-grazing offenders

The governor of the state of Ondo and chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has warned the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) against disregarding the state anti-open grazing law.

Akeredolu insisted that his government would not hesitate to take decisive action against any perpetrator who violated the law to combat open grazing that he recently signed.

He said the law was forceful will be enforced.

The governor’s chief special assistant for special tasks and strategy, Dr. Doyin Odebowale, yesterday in a statement made available to journalists in Akure, affirmed that “no bandit will operate under dubious disguise in Ondo State.”

The statement read: “The government of Ondo State is in possession of a video clip of the press release issued by a so-called cattle breeders’ association, Miyetti Allah Kataul Hore, through its secretary, Saleh Hassan Settled doubt about the support that certain criminal elements, like himself, deplorably enjoy.

“This man admits without scruples that members of his association are so frustrated that they turn to banditry and other forms of crime to ‘fight poverty’.

“They claim to be above the law of every state. They warn of the impending breach of peace and the promotion of ei n ubiquitous anarchy, if they are not allowed to devastate the sweat and toil of long-suffering farmers who, in their opinion, don’t seem to matter much in the scheme of things.

“It is insincere and deceitful for any group of stragglers and certified felons to paint a very resourceful people with the same indolent and retrograde brush, a worthy epitaph for characters of Saleh Hassan’s criminal hue.

“No cultural practice allows crime. Banditry, rape and armed robbery should not be attributes of a people. Private companies must not become the main occupation of a government of a geopolitical area with multiethnic groups. ”

Odebowale emphasized that the government of the state of Ondo would not give in to the group’s arbitrariness and would use all government apparatuses available to advance its citizenship to protect external forces that tend to destroy their country.

“We refuse to become slaves in our country. We have conquered treason and unbridled arrogance. We are unwilling to give up any part of our ancestral inheritance to enjoy the “peace and progress” offered by associations of bandits, robbers, kidnappers and rapists.

“Saleh and its sponsors should work with the Resource satisfaction of his local environment when he is actually native to Nigeria. No part of our land is given to foreigners who adhere to a dubious regional protocol as an instrument to confirm expropriation.

“Let him practice his cultural practices on his father’s land. His peers are not allowed to operate in the state of Ondo with impunity. We will defend our land.

“Ondo State has a law that forbids open grazing. The government has a responsibility to implement the law for the benefit of the people of the state and those who can participate in their pursuit of the development of their God-given space.
