FCT, Abuja – The National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has vowed to improve the reading culture of Nigerians.
While journalists’ questions about her transformation agenda as the new national librarian were answered, Professor Anunobi said that the Die The National Library is supposed to cultivate a reading culture that aims to build an informed en Citizenship Alignment.
She stated that the National Library will begin to ensure that schools, especially those outside the Abuja federal capital territory, adhere to library hours on their schedule. This, in her opinion, will promote an early reading culture among young Nigerians.
Professor Anunobi stated that the National Library has also started to create virtual library services to ensure that informational materials are from Nigerians anywhere in the world.
She indicated that the National Library will use information technology to ensure that people have unhindered access to information in accordance with global best practices .
She stressed that the National Library would work with the media and relevant stakeholders to raise public awareness of the importance of reading and research.
The National Librarian claimed that despite operational challenges such as lack of funds and low staffing levels, the National Library will continue to meet the needs and desires n the Nigerians.
Anunobi as the new National Librarian and CEO of the National Library of Nigeria
President Muhammadu Buhari had the appointment of Professor Anunobi as the new one in September 2020 Approved National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria.
She has also studied at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka and the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
