Ughelli, Delta State – A brave truck Ejiro Otarigho, a driver in Agbaroh in the northern Ughelli area of Delta State, has done the impossible to save lives.
< p class="align-left">Otarigho selflessly drove a burning petrol tanker out of a residential area to avoid what could have turned into a massive tragedy in the area on Saturday June 11th.
According to Bolaji A Zubair, a Facebook user who shared the inspirational story online , Otarigho drove from vi he miles away to save the lives of local residents after the truck caught fire at a gas station.
In the post, Zubair wrote:
< blockquote> “Celebrating you sir, you have done what no one can do. When our system refuses to reward you. Because they don’t always reward heroes in our country.
“Me and my family and the entire Agbaroh community reward you with our hearts. Thank you Sir. And if you don’t mind providing your account number. I really like to reward you personally. Thank you again, hero of our time.”
The truck driver’s exploit has earned him the recognition and commendation of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists .
The Chairman and Secretary of the NUJ, Comrades Michael Ikeogwu and Patrick Ochei, noted in a joint statement that Otarigho is a newly married young man.
In the statement Punch saw, Michael and Ochei said that the driver “had decided not to be selfish about the affairs of his life and family, but had decided to live his own life to prevent a major fire accident that could have thrown the whole state into chaos, which isn’t happening.”
Part of the statement read:
“We give glory to Almighty God that he did not die but survived to tell his heroic story.”
“With that in mind, we call on the Federal Government, the Delta State Government and of course the Ughelli North Local Government to celebrate this young man and give him his due to compensate.
“His unique effort had saved the state so much else had the incident happened the state would have counted its human losses and property damage.
“On ours As a union and as a mirror of society, young Otarigho is our Man of the Year and in due course we will give him the honor of showing that to the world sen there are still patriotic ordinary Nigerians. People like him are the ones who really deserve media awards. We’re really proud of him.”
