Aminu Umar, a deputy police commissioner, was shot dead by bandits in Katsina state.
The deceased and his team members were shot dead during a clearance operation in Zakka Forest, Safana Local Government Area in Katsina State, on Tuesday.
Up until his death, Umar was the Area Commander of Police in Dutsinma.
Daily Trust, citing sources within the Zakka community, said police and bandits clashed in a village called Yauni in Safana’s Zakka district.
“Our vigilantes here told us that there will be a combined police/vigilante team from Kurfi going to Yauni village to confront bandits and they joined the team.”
” Later we heard that there was a fatal clash and some police officers and some vigilantes en were shot dead by the bandits.
“However, about seven military vehicles have reinforcements in the area; Later we saw some police vehicles transporting some bodies, but I couldn’t identify the bodies because I wasn’t near them,” he said.

SP Gambo Isah, Katsina police PR officer, commented on the incident and said Umar was with him died in a fight with police involving over 300 bandits.
He said one other person was killed in the incident, but he did not reveal the identity of the other victim .
