Breaking: Amid Mass Resignation, Former Nigerian Minister Dies –

A former Nigerian communications minister, Olawale Adeniji Ige, has been pronounced dead. He is reported to have died on Monday, May 9.

A statement from his daughter Atinuke Olashore says the deceased was Director General of the Department of Communications prior to his appointment as Minister in 1990, reports the Guardian.

He was reappointed in 1992 to coordinate the Department of Transport, Aviation and Communications.

Between 1999 and 2010, Ige was a member of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Pioneer Director of the Digital Bridge Institute, Abuja.

He was also a member of the First World Telecommunications Advisory Group of the International Telecommunications Union based in Geneva and first chairman of the Nigeria Internet Group.

Ige was born in Lagos on October 13, 1938 and began his career in 1957 as a technical assistant at Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, Ibadan, before moving to Great Britain in 1961 g ing to study electrical engineering.
