Tragedy occurred Tuesday [today] in Imo state after gangsters murdered an Anglican priest, Rev Emeka Merenu.
The Punch reported that until his death the victim was the priest in charge of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Ihitte-Ukwa in the Orsu parish of the state.
The priest, a native of Amaorji in Nkwerre in the Nkwerre Local Government Area of the state, was killed in the early hours of Tuesday morning, our correspondent learned. that the attackers stormed the church grounds and slaughtered the pastor.
His vehicle was not spared because the gangsters set it on fire before they fled.
A source said:
“The responsible priest of the angli Kanischen Church of St. Andrew in Ihitte-Ukwa in Orsu parish of Imo state was killed this morning.
“His attackers stormed the church premises where he lived and slaughtered him and burned his car before they ran away. “
When asked what might be the cause of the murder, the source said,” The church has a school on the premises . His attackers may have been furious that the murdered priest was providing security protection to the students at the school who wrote the WASSCE for high school this year. ”
A senior member of the Church in of the Anglican Diocese of Orlu, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
He told our correspondent that the diocese had been put in the morning mood.
The state police spokesman Micheal Abattam confirmed the murder incident when he contacted him, adding that the investigation had started with the intention of arresting the suspects.
