Driver Ejiro Otarigho, who drove a burning fuel tanker away from a community in Delta state, says he needs a new vehicle reports The Cable.

Otarigho last week drove his tanker, which caught fire in a residential area, onto a river bank.

His action and bravery earned him commendations from Nigerians, including the Senate who decided to honor him.

The 46-year-old, who started the risky job of tanker driving some 12 years ago, announced he would do it would rather have his tanker replaced than get a national honor.’

He said:

“I’ve had calls from them (Delta state government ) but I’m not interested in any national honors at the moment.

“I know that s God has brought me to a good place where my story is now being told. All I want is a replacement for my burned out tanker truck so I can get back to work.

“I was just at home living off nothing but trucks. It hasn’t been easy for me since I lost my tanker.”

Otarigho wants a better job

Asked if he would like to get a new job and give up the dangerous business of tankering, he said, of course I will. It’s a risky job.

He confirmed:

“Imagine if I had died that day, nothing would have been said about me . If the government has something better for me, I will do it without looking back. All I want is to be able to lawfully care for myself and my family.”

Senate Recommends Brave Tanker Driver for National Honor

The Nigerian Senate has recognized the courage of Ejiro Otarigho, a tanker operator, for his heroic actions in stopping a fire in Agbarho, Delta State.

According to Vanguard newspaper, Ejiro this done was recommended by the Senate to be bestowed a national honor by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ejiro Otarigho, the selfless and brave gas tanker driver who drove his burning vehicle filled with diesel out of a residential area around Agbarho, Ughelli North County, Delta State, was recognized by the state government.

Patrick Ukah, the Secretary of Land Government Gov. Ernor Ifeanyi Okowa said Thursday June 16 that Otarigho’s bravery saved the entire state from what would have turned into grief for most families on that fateful day.

Ukah said this at a ceremony to which Otarigho, his pregnant wife and some family members were invited by the state government.
