The President’s Amnesty Program (PAP) for reformed militants in the Niger Delta was reformed last year, an official said.
Mr. Nneotabase Egbe, Special Media Advisor to PAP’s Interim Administrator, rtd. Col. Milland Dikio told the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) on Wednesday.
He said the reform is already bearing fruit.
He said the PAP, under Dikio’s supervision, had found out The Amnesty payroll has been “populated” with 400 duplicate names.
“The irregularities discovered a year ago led to the investigation and review of the 30,000 accounts that received the N65,000 monthly grants.
“The audit so far has shown that some of the accounts were forged and used fraudulently to siphon off funds intended for former agitators.
” Investigations began immediately and the amnesty office stopped probed the donations from the accounts. It was correct.
“I can tell you that some of the accounts have been deleted and their owners will soon receive their grants.
” But those Efforts are being intensified to find out the identity of persons who have Ge ld obtained through identified fake accounts. ”
Egbe said the PAP under Dikio was determined to clean up the system to ensure that amnesty resources were being spent on real and verifiable ex-agitators, and not about fraudsters.
“Investigations also found that some contractors in the PAP office did not deliver their orders in accordance with their terms of the contract,” he said.
Egbe claimed that Dikio was determined to to clean the system.
