It is worth remembering that President Muhammadu Buhari directed NALDA to establish integrated farms in all 109 Senate districts in order to boost food production across the country.
The pan-yorubasozio-political organization, Afenifere, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr Jare Ajayi, accused the federal government of trying to bring back the rejected cattle colony and RUGA by setting up the manors.
But Ikonne, who spoke to journalists at Owerri International Cargo Airport said yesterday that the integrated farm is designed to involve young people in the entire agricultural value chain.
He said, “Well, it’s unfortunate; it’s not another guy or anything that has to do with RUGA. The President of Integrated Farm Estate commissioned us to place it in all 109 Senate counties after commissioning Daura’s, which means he saw the productive nature and impact of the project. “
” That Project is intended for the community in order to develop the community. What we have inside is poultry, fishing, and for those who raise pigs – pig farming. So, it’s for the people.
“The insinuation is meant to mislead people, as a result of incomprehension, so to speak. But the real position is that the integrated farm is designed to accommodate the youth from this community in order to include them in the entire agricultural value chain. ”
He explained that the properties are in line with“ what for the community is known and what the community is interested in. “
He added:” Some states get poultry, cows – like in the north; in the south, like Abia, they fish and breed rabbits. We are already breeding rabbits and farming in Oyo. We also do arable farming in the state of Ekiti.
“So it depends on the environment and has absolutely nothing to do with RUGA. It serves exclusively the development and involvement of the youth and for the benefit of the immediate community, that is what the integrated agricultural property stands for. ”On the occasion of President Buhari’s official visit to Imo state two days ago, Ikonne said the visit showed clearly the passion and love of the president for the people in the southeast of the country.
His words: “This visit is very significant and shows the love of the president and it shows that he is the president of Nigeria and he is competent in all states. It also shows his passion and that he has always loved and still loves the Southeast. On his first competition assignment, he appointed an Igbo man as vice president.
“On his second assignment, he did the same. In 2015 the President gave the Igbo people four solid ministries, with key ministers and a number of other ministries.
“Now look at the Aba-Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, which has been abandoned for years ; Today the road is not only passable, it is standard that you can drive from Aba to Enugu without potholes.
“Take a look at the second Niger Bridge, which was also abandoned for years; today this project is about to be completed. This is just to name a few. The President’s coming shows that he loves the Igbo and will continue to do more for the Igbo. “
