Nigeria’s leading brewing company, Nigerian Breweries Plc, has commissioned the construction works for its expansion project at Ama Brewery in Enugu State. The N56 billion (or €112 million) expansion project is expected to increase brewing capacity from 2.7 million hectoliters to 4.8 billion hectoliters in the first phase and up to 6 million hectoliters in the second phase.

This historic event took place as part of the activities celebrating the visit of HEINEKEN N.V CEO/President Dolf van den Brink to Nigeria, accompanied by Harold van den Broek, Chief Financial Officer of HEINEKEN, and Roland Pirmez, President of HEINEKEN for Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe.
Representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Nigerian Investment Promotion Council, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, traditional rulers from the Gastge meinden.
Speaking at the Wednesday 27th Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, represented by Secretary of State Prof. Simon Ortuanya, commended NB Plc for the bold move to expand its current brewing capacity, demonstrating its commitment to Nigeria’s economy and Enugu State
Ugwuanyi says this project, once completed, would boost the industrial growth of Enugu and Nigeria while increasing the company’s market share.
While expressing his deep appreciation for NB Plc’s corporate investment in Enugu State, Expression NB Plc assured the company that the state would continue to provide favorable policies and formulate friendly tax systems and create a regulatory framework that would make his business a success.
“This investment of 112 million euros in the expansion of Ama Brewery’s project is a commendable decision. This move would not only generate revenue for the state and create more job opportunities for our teeming youth, but also increase HEINEKEN’s market share,” he said.

In his Speaking on the occasion, HEINEKEN’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dolf van den Brink, stated that the investment in Ama Brewery is further evidence of the long history and relationship between HEINEKEN and Nigeria, dating back to 1946
“Based on our long-term role in the past and present, HEINEKEN is investing 112 million euros in this important Ama expansion project because we see that we have an important role in of the future of Nigeria. We are proud to be part of the growth and development of this wonderful state and country. We look forward to further partnership with the great Enugu State,” he said.
In various speeches delivered at the event, the Chairman of said Nigerian Breweries Plc , Chief Kolawole Jamodu and MD Hans Essaadi discussed the project’s impact on the state and region as a whole.
According to Chief Jamodu, the project represents an extension of the Win -Win relationship between the company and the state, noting that the state has provided the necessary operating environment for companies like NB to thrive and in return the company continues to play its role as a responsible corporate citizen with the payment of over N400 million in employee taxes, levies and other levies to the state government in 2021 alone.
In the words of Managing Director Hans Essaadi: “Indeed, our partnership ft with the state government has resulted in us investing hundreds of millions of naira in various community projects and social investment initiatives in the areas of Health, Education, Community Infrastructure, and Sports Development“,
The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in 2022.
