Governor Obaseki in Trouble, Set to Appear Before ECOWAS Court – Legit.ng

FCT, Abuja – A lawsuit has been filed against Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki over his government’s attempt to Forcibly taking over forest reserves in some communities in Edo state.

According to This Day newspaper, as many as 45 rural communities whose forest reserves are at risk of government takeover filed a joint lawsuit in the Community Court the host Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja.

The second plaintiffs have been determined to be eight farmers and land users of the forest zone in the soon-to-be-affected communities.< /p>

Obaseki Reveals Forest Reserves for N69 Billion Palm Oil Project

Recall that a few months ago the governor made an announcement that his government was cooperating have reserved several forests for a palm oil project (CBN) with the central bank, which will amount to N 69 billion, to set up the project.

A follow-up to this announcement prompted the coalition of some relevant interest groups to initiate the lawsuit against the governor.

It has been determined that in a proceeding of this nature the legal defendant is the federal government, which the state government based on the requirements of the ECOWAS is represented in court.

As contained in the lawsuit, the plaintiffs asked the court for help in protecting ir ancestral property against the administration of Governor Obaseki, which was ceded to private investors without prior consent.

Similarly, part of the prayer calls for the court to issue an order that will stop Obaseki from taking over by force.

It was also noted that the land lies within the two forest reserves of Owan BC 10 Forest Reserve and Iuleha/Ora/Ozalla which form a larger part of the Owan Forest Zone the mainstay of the communities acquired by the British colonial government acting towards the local communities, the owners of the country, was duly accountable, in contrast to the Edo government, which is acting with blatant disregard.

In another similar report, Governor Obaseki is currently facing backlash for allegedly manipulating delegate lists.

Some pressure groups and politicians from the Edo State Chapter of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have raised the alarm that the ad hoc list of delegates is being manipulated by some powerful figures in government.

A close source revealed that some members are planning to unseat the PDP in the state for the Labou r party and still want to put forward their preferred candidates even after leaving.

Meanwhile, while presidential candidates’ consultations continue with constituents across the country, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Federal St aat Edo.

Ohuabunwa, who is running under the party umbrella, arrived in Edo state on Saturday, April 24 and presented the party’s state chairman, Mr. Tony Aziegbemi , immediately paid a courtesy call.

He had also paid a visit to party stakeholders, including delegates, with whom he shared his vision and mission.
