Anambra State – Nigerian Army troops killed three unknown armed men in a shooting in Anambra on Thursday October 7th .

The Punch reported that Army spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu announced this in a statement on Saturday October 9th.

According to Nwachukwu, the troops engaged in a shootout with armed men after the criminals attacked a police checkpoint along the Okija-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra, in which a policeman was killed.

The statement was partly:

“The brave troops attacked en attacked the gunmen and overpowered them with superior firepower, forcing them to flee from the scene. However, the troops pursued them hotly and involved the armed men in an arms duel.

“The 3 armed men who drove in 2 vehicles (a Hilux and a Hummer bus) finally succumbed to the effective firepower of the troops. while others fled with gunshot wounds.

“Troops also recovered a vehicle and 2 motorbikes while continuing to exploit the general area for the fleeing terrorists.”

COAS Faruk Yahaya responds

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, the Army Chief of Staff, has praised the troops for their performance, The Cable also reported.

He urged them to maintain the momentum against all criminal elements operating in the region.

The COAS also sympathized with the family of the fallen policeman and prayed for the peace of his soul.

Allen Onyema denies involvement in military service in Anambra

Mean While continuing allegations and counter-allegations about the Use of soldiers circulating in the state of Anambra, said the chairman of the Air Peace airline, Allen Onyema, denied any involvement in the situation.

Onyema denied the allegation that he was involved in sending soldiers from the Nigerian army to the Ihiala municipality of Anambra state.
