A Catholic priest, Rev Fr. Joseph Aketeh Bako, died at the hands of his captors eight weeks after his abduction, reports Leadership newspaper. Br. Christian Okewu Emanuel, made the announcement in the state on Wednesday, May 11. Bako had died between Monday April 18th and Wednesday April 20th.
“Mrs. Joseph (aged 48) was abducted on March 8, 2022 from his residence at St. John Catholic Church Kudenda, where he served as minister.”
According to the Chancellor, Fr. Bako was ill before the kidnapping and his kidnappers would not allow him to take his drugs.
“His own brother was killed there in his presence and after his brother was killed his condition worsened and he died.
“We did not recover his body but we confirmed his death, people who were abducted together saw him die .”
He added that the Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, Fr. Bakos immediate family and the entire Catholic community of St. John Kudenda; and assured them of his fraternal closeness and prayer.
