- New reports have confirmed that the bail granted to popular Lagos socialite Ismaila Mustapha, aka Mompha, has been overturned by the court
- The court has also issued an arrest warrant for Mompha, who is said to have skipped trial on Wednesday 22nd June and money laundering in excess of N6 billion is expected to be returned to court on Thursday 30th June.
Lagos, Ikeja – A Special Crimes Court in Ikeja, Lagos state, has issued the immediate arrest of the popular public figure Life, Ismaila Mustapha, also known as Mompha, in an alleged N6 billion money laundering lawsuit.
According to Vanguard newspaper, Judge Mojisola Dada revoked after issuing a bank order against Mompha also posted his bail due to his absence from court.
The judge said:
< Blockquote>” The defendant’s bail will again be revoked and an arrest warrant will be issued against him against the next adjourned date.”
Premium Times reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC ) filed an 8-person conspiracy and money laundering indictment in excess of N6 billion against the Lagos socialite on Friday, June 10.
Defendant also to be prosecuted alongside his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited.
Defender shocked by Mompha’s absence
Defender Gboyega Oyewole (SAN) addressed the court and prayed for the court to have the matter dropped, but the accused did not appear in court.

When asked by the judge why Mompha did not appear, the defense attorney expressed his surprise at the situation. d although his client assures him that he will appear in court.
“I had his assurances until last night that he was planning to Judgment will be, and that’s why I’ve been waiting for him downstairs.
“I have tried to ensure that the defendant is in court today after his absence on the last day of the adjournment, but to no avail.”
The prosecutor called for Mompha’s immediate arrest
In front of the court, prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo reiterated that the defense attorney had given his word the day before and the assurance that the accused would appear after a plea was filed.
“To say that this development is not shocking is an understatement, my lord.” Like yesterday the learned Senior Advocate joined in the discussion me and assured us that we should continue with this procedure today.
“The defense counsel appeared to have taken some steps, but it seems that he is not without results.
” I request your lordship to issue an arrest warrant l against him and the production of the accused before Her Lordship.”
However, the court answered the prosecutor’s prayer as the trial was adjourned until Thursday 30 June .

Meanwhile, the Federal Court of Justice in Lagos has ordered the forfeiture of some designer pieces ahead of its latest trial ordered, which were seized by Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha.
The items were seized by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) when Momphas was arrested in 2019
Judge Lewis Allagoa granted the November preliminary forfeiture order on Friday, October and Nigerians on social media have reacted to the development.
