Police in Edo said Saturday that they had rescued five kidnap victims and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime committed on Friday.
Police spokesman SP Bello Kontongs said in a press release that guns and Ammunition was seized from the suspects.
He said agents responded to a lead on suspected kidnappers, attacked a vehicle carrying a body from Lagos to Imo on the Benin-Lagos bypass, and kidnapped them three occupants of the vehicle.
“Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Egba Division, SP John Emmanuel, mobilized agents and the local vigilance group to fight the bush immediately.
” You advanced into the nearby Ute forest and after hours of walking in the bush came across the alleged kidnappers who opened fire on them.
“The agents involved the suspects in a weapon duel ll the latter to abandon the victims.
“Two of the suspects, Mohammed Ishaku, 25 and Mubarak Wada, 26, were arrested while others with gunshot wounds fled into the thick forest .
“Three locally made weapons, two live cartridges, two cutlass and some amulets were also found by the suspects,” said Kontongs.
He said the number of kidnapped victims, who transported the body were three in number and they were rescued along with two other victims who had previously been kidnapped.
