Ondo State – Police officers in Ondo found and rescued 77 people, including 26 children, from the basement of a church in Valentino district of the state.
Funmilayo Odunlami, Public Relations Officer of the Police (PPRO) of Ondo State , TheCable announced on Saturday, July 2 that an investigation into the incident had been launched.
The police spokesman announced this early find gs stated that the individuals were being held in the basement by a pastor preparing for the rapture.
“It is a suspected kidnapping case. It’s a church related problem – a pastor who claims Jesus is coming soon and the rapture will be in September and he put them all in one house.”

How Church Members Were Rescued
Odunlami told Channels Television that police received an intelligence report “that some children in The Whole Bible Believers Church AKA Ondo Church, Valentino area, Ondo Town”.
Police quickly moved in, but when they reached the church, they were attacked by members. Two pastors of the church were later arrested and are in custody.
“Total members 77 – twenty-six (26) children , eight (8) teenage and forty-three (43) adult members were saved.”
Pastors deny hypnotizing members
It has been determined that a Pastor Josiah Peter Asumosa, an assistant pastor at the church, was the one who told members the rapture would take place in April, but later said it was postponed to September 2022.
In an interview, resident pastor David Anifowose and Josiah denied claims of hypnotizing their members, saying they only preached the unadulterated words of God to them, Vanguard reports.

Pastor arrested, after many days fell under “anointing”
Meanwhile, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested the General Overseer of Christ Living Hope Church, Rev. Ugochukwu Emmanuel Ekwem , at Murtala Muhammed International Airport for drug trafficking.
Videos shared online showed some “spiritual acts” performed by the cleric weeks before his arrest. In the clips, the General Overseer laid his hands on members during a deliverance service and made them fall under the “power of his anointing.”
