- Terrorist activity in communities in Niger and Kwara state must be met with a decisive attack, the Nigerian Senate said
- The Senate on Tuesday , June 21, called on the Nigerian military to launch operations against the insurgents involved in the kidnapping and killing of residents in the region Terrorists are now forcing residents to live in constant fear of being either kidnapped and/or killed.
Nigerian Senate lawmakers said they had identified some enclaves where members of terrorist groups operate in communities in three local government areas of Kwara and Niger states.
A statement from Ezrel Tabiowo, the Senate President’s special assistant for media, says lawmakers have called on the Nigerian military to ensure it conducts a full-scale operation against the criminal element within of Kainji Lake National Park and other communities.
Some of the communities identified by the legislature are Kaiama, Karonzi-Yashikira in Baruten local government, and the Wawa and Babanna areas of Niger State .

This was raised by Senator Sadiq Umar (Kwara North) when he submitted a motion to the ‘Zun declining insecurity in Kainji Lake National Park and existential threats to communities in Kaima, Baruten and Borgu local governments in Kwara and Niger states.’
The The Motion was co-sponsored by Deputy Senator Aliyu Abdullahi (Niger North).
Umar said while speaking on the subject that the incessant kidnappings and killings in the identified communities were in the both states are becoming increasingly wild.
He added that the activities of the criminals now mean that residents live in constant fear of suspected kidnappers, gunmen to be either kidnapped and/or killed;
“I am also aware that there is a Forward Operating Base ( FOB) was immediately after the first attacks and subsequent approval for the establishment of a military ka established in local government, but these attacks continue with ruthless abandon.”
Upon Umar’s submission, the Senate decided that defense, finance and national planning committees should interface with the Ministry of Defense to determine the status of the construction and funding of the Army Barracks at Kaiama and the Forward Operations Base (FOB) at Babanna in Kwara and Niger states respectively.
The Senate requested also urges the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to send support materials to victims in affected communities
