Troops from Operation Hadin Kai have successfully thwarted an attempted attack by terrorists from the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) on a facility housing some surrendered Boko Haram members in Damboa, Borno state.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu announced this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.
He said that the ISWAP terrorists were in a desperate attempt to recover the unprecedented exhaustion of their fighting force.
“This anti-terrorism Attack amid Terror is used by ISWAP to deter terrorists from abandoning their ranks.
“The latest strategy has nothing to do with the frustration of the group as high-ranking commanders and members have recently engaged in violent agitation to promote peace denounce.
“This tangible concern may have prompted ISWAP on Saturday to launch a mission to destroy or capture Boko Haram terrorists who surrendered in Damboa,” he said.
