The Ondo state government has vowed to hunt down the attackers at St. Francis Catholic Church in the town of Owo on Sunday, where scores of worshipers died, and said they must pay for their crime .
A statement by Chief Press Officer of Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, Richard Olatunde on Sunday disclosing the government’s position also said that the governor condemned the unprovoked attack on innocent believers.
“Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN is deeply saddened by the unprovoked attack and killing of innocent people People in Owo praying there St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, on Sunday,” Olatunde said.
He further quoted Governor Akeredolu as saying: “The heinous and satanic attack is ei n calculated attack on the peace-loving people of the kingdom of Owo, who have enjoyed relative peace over the years.
“I have spoken to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Most Reverend Jew Arogundade, who is currently in his office way to Owo. I also had to cancel my party’s national mission in Abuja and visit Owo immediately.
“This is an unexpected development. I’m shocked to say the least. Nonetheless, We will use all available means to hunt down these attackers and make them pay for it. We will never bow to the machinations of heartless elements to rid our state of criminals.
“I feel compassion for my people in Owo, especially the families of those who lost gave their lives to this ugly and unfortunate attack. I offer my condolences to Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye and the Catholic Church.
“I urge our people to remain calm and vigilant. Don’t take the law into your own hands. I spoke to the heads of the security agencies. I was also assured that security agents would be deployed to monitor the Owo Kingdom and restore normalcy.”< p class="align-left"/>
