Yoruba youths kick against Onochie’s nomination as INEC commissioner

• Urging NASS not to confirm their appointment

A group, the Yoruba Youth Socio-Cultural Association (YYSA) Worldwide, has opposed the nomination of a former advisor to President Muhammadu pronounced Buhari, Ms. Lauretta Onochie, as Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

A statement released yesterday by YYSA’s National President Olalekan Hammed stated: “The nomination of Ms. Lauretta Onochie who has a strong leaning towards a political party, as INEC commissioner is undemocratic and highly reprehensible.

“If the government led by President Buhari really believes in, and is genuinely interested in, free, fair and credible elections , a democratic system in system Nigeria, INEC, as electoral body and one of the pillars of democracy, must be free from political interference. Everyone knows the role of Mrs. Lauretta Onochie in their government. ”
