A 17-year-old man found guilty of the rape, murder and aggravated robbery of an 81-year-old woman has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Northern Cape Supreme Court.
Provincial police spokesman Capt Olebogeng Tawana said the court also found the defendant unfit to possess a firearm and ordered his name to be placed on the national sex offenders registry.
“In July 2021, the defendant approached an 81-year-old woman at her home in the village of Cassel, where he raped, murdered and robbed her of her belongings,” Tawana said.
“The Defendant was arrested, investigating officer Lt-Col Doggy Magugu successfully resisted bail and was held in police custody pending trial.”
Acting Deputy Provincial Crime Discovery Commissioner Brig Nicky Mills praised Magugu.< /p>
