Gauteng police arrested a 42-year-old man at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday afternoon and confiscated a set of rhino horns weighing 26 kg.
“Around 12:36 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, has A security officer at the airport has alerted police to suspicious-looking items in hand luggage taken by a man bound for Singapore,” police spokeswoman Colonel Athlenda Mathe said.
She said after further inquiries and interrogations suspect: police found the rhino horns.
Two cell phones found in the suspect’s possession were confiscated.
The man will appear in Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on Monday, to face charges of violating the Biodiversity Act banning the illegal trade in rhino horn.
