3,283 Covid-19 patients in hospital as cases increase

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 7,238 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24-hour cycle, representing a positivity rate of 24.8%.

The health department recorded 31 deaths. Of these, 12 occurred in the last 24 to 48 hours. This brings the total number of deaths since the pandemic began to 100,898.

Most new cases are from Gauteng (34%), followed by Western Cape (23%). KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 15%, Eastern Cape 10% and Free State 6%. The North Cape accounted for 5%, the North West for 4%, Mpumalanga for 3% and the Limpopo for 1%.

In the past 24 hours, the number of hospital admissions has increased by 136, bringing the total number of hospitalized patients to 3.283.
