More than 500 new Covid-19 cases have been registered in Gauteng in the past 24 hours, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases announced on Friday.
The province accounted for 509 of the 789 new cases in all of SA on the last day – or 65% of national cases.
The hardest hit provinces were the North Cape (59) and the Northwest and Western Cape (both 46).
That means there have been 2,928,288 confirmed cases across the country since the virus broke out.
There have also been seven Covid-19 related deaths, according to NICD recorded on the last day, with the total number of deaths rising to to 89,562 .
There were also 38 new hospital admissions on the last day for a total of 2,895 people currently admitted.
