A trio of suspected drug smugglers were arrested while transporting nearly R7 million worth of heroin from Mozambique to Empangeni.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Capt Nqobile Gwala said the men were between the ages of 27 and 40 years have been arrested. by a police operation team at the Nseleni exit on Tuesday.
“The police received information about the suspects who were transporting drugs from Mozambique to Empangeni. Action was taken to respond to the information.
“The vehicle with three occupants was discovered and stopped for a search to be conducted. During the search of the vehicle, the police discovered 23 bags of heroin hidden in the [loading area] of the Bakkies.
“Each bag weighed 2 kg and the estimated street value of the drugs found is 6.9 m Suspects who are foreign nationals have been arrested for drug possession. “
Gwala said the men are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
