Almost 5,000 new Covid-19 infections and over 100 hospitalised in the past 24 hours

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases said on Friday that Covid-19 infections are rising after 4,954 people tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.

That means that since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, the country recorded 3,785,398 positive cases.

Five more deaths related to Covid-19 were reported, bringing the death toll from the virus in the country to 100,360.

The majority of new Covid-19 infections – 44% – were in Gauteng, followed by KwaZulu-Natal at 27%. The Western Cape accounted for 12%, the Eastern Cape 6%, the Free State 4%, the North West 3%, Mpumalanga 2%, and the Limpopo and North Cape each 1%.

With Infections On The Rise is also the number of those hospitalized due to the virus.

The NICD said that 121hospitalizations related to Covid-19 have been reported since Thursday.
