The death of former Eskom chairman Jabu Mabuza has sparked shock waves across the country as many paid tribute to the business leader on social media.
His family confirmed on Wednesday that he was involved in Covid -19 died related complications.
The ANC said Mabuza would be remembered for its contribution to the corporate landscape in South Africa.
“Mabuza has been an integral part of the corporate landscape for many years in South Africa. He will be remembered as an outstanding and formidable businessman who has profoundly influenced the lives of South Africans.
“At the time of his death, he was Chairman of the Boards of Net1 and Sun International. The people of South Africa will cherish their memory as one of the nation’s most respected sons, who made a tremendous contribution to the reconstruction and development of our country, “said the ANC.
Mabuza’s family said: ” He was a valiant fighter for the political and economic freedom of South Africans. On this day [16. June] In 1976, he had joined thousands of black youths demanding the end of Bantu education. He was later expelled for taking part in this groundbreaking protest that exposed the brutality of the apartheid regime and fueled the liberation struggle.
“The family is grateful for the support and the prayers during this time. We ask the public to give the family privacy and space while we process our father’s death. “
