The bloodied and bullet-riddled body of a former KwaZulu-Natal mayor-turned-farmer was discovered Thursday in a sugarcane field in the Canelands region north of Durban.
< Sagadava “Manna” Naidoo, 74, former mayor of Verulam, went missing on Wednesday, prompting a search by police, a security firm and members of the Municipal Police Forum.
According to Prem Balram, owner of Reaction Unit SA, Naidoo is suspected of being the victim of a farm invasion.
” Naidoo’s body was recovered by a search team patrolling the sugar cane fields. He appears to have been shot multiple times. His white Toyota Hilux and several firearms were also stolen.”
Balram said Rusa was contacted by Naidoo’s family on Wednesday when they were unable to locate him.
“An intensive search has been conducted since Wednesday by members of Rusa, SAPS, community organizations and civilian volunteers.”
This was not the first Attack on Naidoo. In 2017, two gunmen tried to break into his home, but without success.
In 2014, Naidoo and his brother Sivaraj, a wealthy businessman, were involved in a bitter dispute over their family fortune and R1 billion worth of assets.
Police have been contacted for comment.
