A few months ago it was a crowded Covid-19 field hospital, and within a few weeks the Cape Town International Convention Center (CTICC) will be a mass vaccination center capable of giving 4,000 vaccinations a day.
A. According to a statement by the Western Cape Prime Minister Alan Winde and Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato on Thursday, the center will open in three or four weeks.
Winde said: “Our teams were working a little over a year ago Quick and efficient to transform the CTICC into the first major field hospital in the Western Cape, our Hospital of Hope, and it became a healing place for the thousands of residents who received life-saving treatments there.
“I’m delighted me, are again working flat out to open this world-class conference venue to residents across Cape Town and enable a radical increase in life-saving vaccinations. Our goal is to be a center of hope in our city and province within a few weeks. ”
Plato said the city council aims to have the CTICC vaccination site ready by the end of June. The provincial government would be responsible for its operation.
Winde added, “At its peak, it is expected that [it] can vaccinate over 4,000 people a day. It will have up to 50 vaccination stations, with each station providing 100 vaccinations per day.
“This will have a huge impact on the pace of our vaccination program, especially as we are vaccinating residents under the age of 60 Years. ”
At least two more mass vaccination centers are planned in Cape Town. The statement said that their activation would depend on the supply of vaccines in the next few weeks.
