Pharmaceutical company Clicks has opened another 60 vaccination sites to accelerate rollout across SA.
Covid-19 infections are increasing in SA, with Gauteng reporting the most daily cases since launch, the third Wave.
The group is among several privately held companies that worked with the Ministry of Health on Phase 2 of the vaccine roll out.
Clicks, which vaccinated more than 35,000 people nationwide, said on Thursday, it aims to vaccinate as many people as possible in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. The three provinces have the highest rates of infection.
“It is important to ensure that as many people as possible are vaccinated as soon as possible, especially in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal in the next three up to four weeks before the cases peak, “said Vikash Singh, Managing Executive of Clicks.
” We are encouraged by the pipeline of inventory that will be available, and expect another 180. Locations all over SA will be opened in the coming weeks. We have also prioritized setting up locations in stores in areas with restricted access to vaccines. ”
With 120 active locations, the group aims to have a total of 602 locations that have the capacity to Vaccinate 30,100 people a day, six days a week.
According to the latest figures from the health department on Thursday, 115,016 vaccines have been administered by the public and private sectors in the past 24 hours. KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape have administered the most vaccines in both sectors.
The cumulative number of vaccines administered in South Africa is 2,550,248.
