DNA trips up rape suspect after 13 years on police wanted list

Police have tracked down and arrested an alleged rapist in the Free State who has been on the run for 13 years.

The 34-year-old suspect was located and pursued two weeks before the crime. The authorities fell himself on Thursday.

“He was arrested after he was linked by DNA,” said police spokesman Sgt Peter Kareli.

“It is alleged that the suspect is his victim by sneaking from behind and grabbed her by the neck and threatened to stab her. Then he dragged the victim to an open square or an empty house, where he raped her. “

All rapes took place in the Bloemspruit area and the victims are mostly between 23 and 24 years old, with one victim aged 43.

The rampage occurred between 2009 and 2013.

The suspect should appear on Monday before the district court Bloemfontein and face 13 cases of rape and attempted murder.
