Seven men and five women were arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning at a hijacked property in Fairview, downtown Johannesburg.
They are expected to appear on Thursday Before Jeppestown Magistrate Court, charged with trespassing and disregard of court, the city said in a statement.
The property was recently kidnapped by a number of people by people who were forcibly occupied.
The owners turned to the Supreme Court and received an eviction notice. This should be executed on May 18th. The city said, “Security guards have been hired to guard the property. However, the suspects attacked security and forcibly withdrew into the property later that day. ”
Jeppestown police and the city’s Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) opened an investigation .
“In the early hours of the morning, the undercover unit of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) carried out a stab operation in cooperation with GFIS.
“The city is committed to stopping the rot [in the CBD] and making it a prosperous and inclusive place for our people to live, work and play.”
