Eskom said Thursday it suspended services at Ivory Park Ext 8 over alleged violence in the area that targeted personnel and equipment and was taken by the community.
Amanda Qithi, spokeswoman for Eskom, said a case of theft had been opened at the Ivory Park Police Station.
< span>“The employees were working on a feeder when they were chased out of the area by the community. The safety of our employees is our priority and services will not resume until the area is deemed safe.”
Qithi said they weren’t sure why the community became violent.
Employees from the town of Tshwane were allegedly held hostage by the community Tuesday night in another incident in Mamelodi East and forced to cut power to a neighboring area.< /span>
